Why Do I Need a Burglar alarm System?

Being a homeowner can be stressful. With all of our personal belongings and loved ones under one roof, it’s hard not to get anxious about their safety. On top of this, even if you live in an area which – statistically – is safe, it doesn’t mean that you are not going to be worried when you leave the house. So, the fix? Have a burglar alarm installed at your home. A burglar alarm will help to alleviate some of the worry that comes with leaving your home, and offers some real protection, too.

In this article, we’ll look at some of the benefits of installing a burglar alarm in greater detail.

Protect your belongings

In this day and age, we have more valuables in our home than ever before, meaning that there are plenty of things worth stealing, including mobile phones, tablets, televisions, games consoles – and that’s just the technology. Further, in recent years, one of the most common methods which thieves use to steal vehicles is to break into a home and take the keys.

With all of this in mind, it’s quite clear how important it is to make sure that our homes are protected.

A deterrent

Just because your burglar alarm might not be triggering very much – if at all – that doesn’t mean it isn’t working. In fact, that’s when your burglar alarm is working its best. Why? Because it’s acting as a deterrent. If your burglar alarm is clearly visible on the exterior of your home, then the chances are that most would-be thieves will think twice before trying to break in, simply because they would be better off trying to house with a lower level of security.

Higher asking price for your home

As we’ve discussed, burglar alarms keep your home safe and contribute to a safer neighbourhood, things that are highly sought-after when purchasing a new home, and something which will ultimately be reflected in the asking price.

Lower insurance

Given that installing a burglar alarm significantly reduces the risk of your home being burgled, it could also impact the cost of your insurance, making it lower. Also, given that having a more sophisticated system installed could reduce the risk even further, this could well reduce the cost of your insurance significantly. However, just because you have an alarm installed, it doesn’t guarantee that your insurance premium will fall – this is something that you will have to discuss with your insurance provider first. Similarly, just because you’ve installed a top-of-the-range monitored alarm system, this doesn’t mean that the reduction in insurance cost will offset the costs of running it monthly.
